The promulgation of the Forest Code therefore marks the de facto beginning of the implementation of the new forest policy, which aims to enable Côte d'Ivoire to strengthen its forest cover, which has been severely degraded in recent decades. The objective for the authorities, through this policy, is for the country to have forest on 20% of the national territory by 2045 against 11% currently. It should be noted that the new Forest Code clarifies concepts such as “tree ownership”, “agroforests” and “forest concessions”.
