Fight against malaria: Health experts hold the 6th scientific symposium
Taking stock of scientific research and also making proposals for improving control mechanisms in order to achieve the elimination of malaria, which continues to claim many victims, is the objective of the 6th scientific symposium on malaria, which is taking place from 20 to 21 April 2022 at the National Institute of Public Health in Adjamé. Around the theme: “Intensifying the fight against malaria in Côte d'Ivoire and resilience in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic”, this symposium, which brings together several experts and health partners, is organized by the National Malaria Control Programme in preparation for World Malaria Day scheduled for April 25.
Thus, at the opening ceremony, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, Professor Mamadou Samba, Director General of Health, on behalf of the Minister of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Disease Coverage, invited participants through research results to achieve the goals of eliminating malaria in 2030. For him, the results of research should make it possible to make decisions for the well-being of populations in order to achieve the goals of elimination by 2030.
Addressing the issue of free care, Professor Mamadou Samba called on health personnel to ensure that this was effective and visible in health centers. For him, free diagnosis and care must be applied in its entirety. Continuing, the Director General of Health urged researchers to increase the awareness of populations about the use of treated mosquito nets in order to help reduce the mortality rate associated with malaria.
Concluding his remarks, he paid tribute to some researchers including Dr. Penali Louis Koné, a malaria researcher, president of the National Committee on Ethics in Life Sciences and Health, who for more than 30 years has been conducting research in the fight against this disease.
