RICE FARMING: 5 BILLION CFA FRANCS FROM THE BIDC FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A RICE-GROWING AREA IN THE NORTH OF THE COUNTRY
On 30 March 2022 in Abidjan, the ECOWAS Investment and Development Bank (BIDC) granted Côte d'Ivoire 5 billion CFA francs, for the partial financing of the project to build a dam and the development of the downstream perimeter and the installation of a solar field, for the pumping and irrigation of rice fields on the Sangola site, in M'Bengué (North of country).
The objective of this project, according to the government spokesperson, Amadou Coulibaly, who announced it at the end of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in Abidjan, is to contribute to the increase of local rice production in order to achieve food self-sufficiency and reduce poverty in rural areas.
“More specifically, it aims to mobilize runoff water in order to improve seed production conditions in the Poro region, to increase the availability of certified rice seeds in the project area by improving yields and to substantially increase the incomes of beneficiary producers”, noted Amadou Coulibaly, also Minister of Communication, Media and Francophonie.
