Ehotilés Islands National Park
Located in the south-east of Côte d'Ivoire, the Ehotilé Islands National Park is a set of six islands scattered on the Aby lagoon, just before it opens to the sea. These are the islands Assoco-Monobaha, Niamouan, Niamouan, Balouate, Balouate, Mea, Elouame and Bosson-Assoum. They cover a total of 722 hectares, not including the arms of the lagoon that separate them.
Erected by decree 74-179 of 25/04/74 as a national park, the Ehotilé Islands are now under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment. The Ehotilé Islands National Park is easy to access from Abidjan with the possibility of benefiting from tourist visits from Grand-Bassam and Assini. Having historical and religious values for the local populations (presence of cannons dating from the 17th century, ritual sites, cemetery of kings), these archaeological sites are protected and preserved. RAMSAR site since October 2005 and inclusion on the indicative list of World Heritage sites in 2006.
