Sustainable fishing on Lake Buyo: the Local Management Committee raises awareness among fishing communities

On May 13, 2022, the fishing communities of KP 15 were made aware of good fishing practices by the Local Management Committee (CGL) of the Taï National Park. This was in view of the holding of the first session of the said Committee.

Mr. KOUAME Bouaki, Prefect of the Department of Buyo urged fishermen to use regulatory fishing techniques and instruments, to ensure the sustainability of the activity. He also emphasized social cohesion and collaboration between different groups and associations.

Furthermore, Mr. YACOUBA Doumbia, the Prefect of the Cavally Region, President of the CGL-PNT, called on the fishing communities of PK 15 to work in good agreement with the South-West Zone Directorate of the OIPR.

As a reminder, the PK15 and the PK28 are temporary fishing camps set up in the Wildlife Reserve, from which coastal communities fish on Lake Buyo, under the control of OIPR agents. These activities, in this part of the protected area, are compatible with the status of Biosphere Reserve of Taï National Park, as long as they respect sustainable fishing techniques and practices.
