State of knowledge and use of medicinal plants in households in southern, central and northern Côte d'Ivoire.

Ethnobotanical and sociological surveys were conducted among the populations of the cities of Abidjan, Bouaké and Korhogo. These surveys aimed to determine the uses that these populations make of medicinal plants in their households. A total of 97 medicinal plants have been inventoried. Of the three (3) localities visited, the plant species most used by the populations are Xylopia aethiopica (Dunal) A. Rich. (83.91%) and Lippia multiflora Moldenke (72.57%) followed by Tectona grandis L. f. (40.08%) Zingiber officinale Rosc. (38.16%), Azadiratcha indica L. (36.84), followed by Tectona grandis L. f. (40.08%).%), Sarcocephalus latifolius Sm. (36.13%), Phyllanthus amarus Schumach. & Thonn. (34.41%), Vernonia amygdalina Dehile (33.70%), Anogeissus leiocarpus (Willd) Drake (32.09%), Bambusa vulgaris (DC.) Guill. & Perr. (31.38%) and Flueggea virosa (Roxb. Ex Willd) Voigt (27.73%). These surveys have shown that urban populations value medicinal plants. The use of these plants is self-medicated in households and depends on the availability and especially on the relief that herbal remedies bring to populations in relation to various pathologies.
