Dynamics of Colonization of Ruderal Zones of an Urban Forest Massif by Invasive Exotic Plant Species: Case of the Banco National Park (Ivory Coast)

Ruderal areas are starting points for the invasion of natural ecosystems by invasive plants. In this study, the aim is to inventory all the invasive plants present in the GNP, to highlight their spatial distribution and to monitor their evolution of land use. Floristic data were first collected through an itinerant inventory in order to identify and identify all invasive plants. At the end of this inventory, six areas with a high presence of invasive plants were selected: under the high-voltage lines, the roadsides, the arboretum, the camps (destroyed camp and current camp), the periphery of the park and the portion of the Anguédédou forest that represents the non-ruatorial zone occupied by invasive species. Subsequently, phytosociological surveys carried out in 203 permanent plots of 50 m2. Within each plot, all invasive species were identified., enumerated and their land cover areas were measured consecutively, from 2016 to 2018. 22 species counted including one proven invasive and 21 potentially invasive species spread over the entire park. Chromolaena odorata and Hopea odorara are a real threat to this park. The camps and the periphery of the park are the most invaded places. The spatio-temporal dynamics of invasive species shows that they occupy 12.01 ha of the park's rudest areas and 126.84 ha, or 3.68%, taking into account the area planted with Hopea odorata. These results make it possible to anticipate and coordinate actions in order to avoid large-scale invasion of the park.
