2022 Jun 28CHARACTERIZATION OF THE FLORA AND VEGETATION OF THE RUDERAL AREAS OF THE BANCO NATIONAL PARK (SOUTHERN IVORY COAST)
Ruderal areas are starting points for the proliferation of invasive alien species. The objective of this study is
to contribute to a better knowledge of the flora and vegetation of the ruderal areas of the Banco National Park. The aim is to
identify plant species in ruderal environments, exotic invasive species and to characterize the plant groups and species
characteristic of these environments. Two hundred three plots (203) of phytosociological surveys of 50 m2 (10 m x 5 m) have been installed along tourist trails, in the area where high-voltage lines are located, in camps and on the
outskirts of the park. All plant
species present were identified and assigned an abundancy-dominance coefficient. The results showed that 302
plant species divided into 220 genera and 93 families colonize these environments. Nineteen exotic invasive species including one proven
invasive species have been identified. Seven plant groups were identified, four of which were colonized by invasive plants such as Hopea
odorata, Chromolaena odorata and Lantana camara. This study constitutes a preliminary basis for the knowledge of plant groups in the ruderal
areas of the Banco National Park. These environments deserve more attention in the strategy for the conservation of protected areas in
Côte d'Ivoire.
