The office of the Minister of Water and Forests, located on the 22nd floor of the Postel 2001 building, hosted the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the project “Conservation and rehabilitation of the Cavally classified forest” financed by the company NESTLE.

This session was chaired by Madam General Curator Zouzou Epouse Mailly, Director of the Minister's Office.

Indeed, the Ministry of Water and Forests (MINEF) and NESTLE signed a Memorandum of Understanding on July 10, 2020, for the implementation of a project to conserve and rehabilitate the Cavally Classified Forest. The project is implemented by EARTHWORM and SODEFOR in collaboration with the Société de Transformation du Bois de Cavally (STBC).

This session of the Steering Committee made it possible to analyze the partial results acquired by the project during the 2022 financial year and to make recommendations.

The main results obtained in 2022 are:

* 260,000 multi-use forest trees produced in conjunction with local populations;

* 634 ha of reforestation carried out;

* the production of deforestation alerts to guide the patrols of SODEFOR teams;

* the support of 140 producers from neighbouring villages in the practice of agroforestry;

* the development of Income-Generating Activities in coastal villages.

After making their recommendations, the members of the Steering Committee considered the results achieved by the project to be satisfactory.
