Floristic diversity and value of the sacred forest Bokasso (Eastern Côte d'Ivoire) for conservation
The forest region located in the east of Côte d'Ivoire was marked by a set of human activities that led to its degradation. In this region, the sacred forests are today, for some departments such as Transua, the few relics still intact of the forest that extended as far as Ghana. One of them, called Bokassô, was the subject of a study whose objectives are: (1) the determination of its area by cartography, (2) the botanical inventory and (3) the determination of its value for conservation.
The results obtained indicate that the forest covers an area of 54.9 ha for a wealth of 188 plant species grouped into 154 genera and 64 families. The floristic composition shows that it is a well-preserved fragment of dense humid semi-deciduous forest. This forest is home to 30 species of plants with a particular status that give it great conservation value. However, numerous human activities are practised that threaten the integrity of the sacred Bokasso forest.
