Floristic diversity of plants: plants with decorative potential derived from natural formations of the flora of the South of the CI
A floristic study on natural ornamental flora was conducted in the southern Ivorian forest. Its objective was to characterize the flora with decorative potential resulting from natural formations, to assess its diversity and its floristic richness for sustainable management of it. The itinerant inventory method was carried out in four phytogeographical sectors in southern Côte d'Ivoire (coastal, umbrophilic, mesophilic and mountain sectors). It consisted in going in different directions and identifying all the plant species with decorative potential encountered, without taking into account their size. A total of 123 species with ornamental potential, grouped into 92 genera belonging to 47 families, have been inventoried. Among the sectors studied, it is the rainforest sector, in dense evergreen forest, that has the largest number of species (106). Fabaceae (13), Rubiaceae (10), Orchidaceae (9) and Acanthaceae (07) are the four best represented families. The ornamental flora of southern Côte d'Ivoire is characterized by a majority of Phanerophytes (72.58%). From an ecological point of view, plants from the most diverse environments are, for the most part, sylvatic. Some are rustic: Senna alata (L.) Roxb. (Fabaceae), for example, which implies that the South Ivorian ornamental flora is rich in decorative plants and that the presence of these species generally varies from one locality to another. Their valorization through horticulture would be a means of saving flora.
