NATIONAL ACTION PLAN TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND LAND DEGRADATION IN CÔTE D'IVOIRE
To demonstrate its solidarity and fight, in partnership and cooperation, against land degradation and desertification, Côte d'Ivoire ratified the said Convention on 4 March 1997, which entered into force on 2 June 1997. The country then committed itself to developing a National Programme of Action to Combat Land Degradation (PAN-LCD), as an instrument for the appropriate implementation of the CCD at the national level. This marks a recognition by the Government of Côte d'Ivoire of the reality of the negative impacts of desertification/land degradation on its economy.
Unfortunately, several socio-political constraints did not allow Côte d'Ivoire to finalize the process of developing its PAN-LCD. Under (COP8), the parties to the UNCCD adopted a 10-year programme of action 2008-2018 and committed themselves to developing their PAN-LCDs, to which Côte d'Ivoire subscribed.
To achieve this, an important place was devoted to the national diagnosis through sectoral studies relating to the Environmental and Ecosystem, Political and Institutional, Socioeconomic and Financial framework by highlighting the problems and causes of desertification/land degradation as well as the constraints, obstacles, obstacles, opportunities, issues and challenges of the LCD.
