Communication, Education and Public AwarenessCOP15: FIGHT AGAINST DEFORESTATION/THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR FOR WEST AFRICA OF THE UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME PROPOSES SOLUTIONS
On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, Ms. Angèle Luh, Regional Director for West Africa of the United Nations Environment Programme, was in front of the press in the Sofitel Hotel Ivoire media room located in Abidjan Cocody.
“Cop 15 is Africa's COP. It takes place in Africa. We need to make it our own while keeping in mind the well-being of populations, especially rural populations,” she stressed.
At the level of the United Nations Environment Programme, three particular expectations draw attention and are generally based on the vision of living in harmony with the land and nature. She recalled that her organization's financial support for the various conventions (old and future) has increased from 1.5 billion dollars to around 2.3 billion dollars today.
According to her, in addition to planting trees, it is also necessary to develop mechanisms that will help communities improve their living conditions.
The Africa Regional Director of UN Environment remains convinced that all the solutions to these problems are in nature. It is about implementing them with the financial resources that come with them.
