MODERNIZATION OF THE COFFEE-COCOA SECTOR: MULTIFUNCTIONAL CARDS DISTRIBUTED TO PRODUCERS

Abidjan, April 12, 2022 - The Café-Cacao Council officially handed over multifunctional cards to coffee-cocoa producers, in order to meet the contemporary requirements of the global market.

It was on April 6, 2022 in Abidjan, in the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumami.

“The producer card is multi-functional. Equipped with a QR code containing all the information on the producer and his orchard and a bank chip to allow financial transactions on the marketing of products, it contains much other information”, indicates an information note from the Café-Cacao Council.

The producer card now makes it possible to ensure the traceability of production, the security of commercial transactions in cocoa and coffee by avoiding the transport of cash from one point to another point of purchase and the effective payment to producers of the guaranteed on-board price fixed by the State.

According to the director general of the Café-Cacao Council, the card will constitute the “foundation on which the inter-professional coffee-cocoa sector will be built”.

The distribution of these maps follows the Census of coffee-cocoa producers and their orchards (RPCCV) operation over all coffee-cocoa production areas.

Launched on Monday, April 15, 2019, the project, with a total cost of 6.5 billion CFA francs, has identified more than 993,031 coffee-cocoa producers and registered an area of 3.2 million hectares of coffee-cocoa plots.

The first actors in the sector to benefit from the cards are, in particular, the FAHO COOPCA cooperatives in Abengourou, SCOOPS/SAHS in Daloa and SOCOOPAGOS COOP-CA in Aboisso.
