ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT STUDY (ESIA) OF THE PROJECT TO DEVELOP RAINWATER DRAINAGE STRUCTURES IN THE CITY OF GRAND BASSAM
Since April 2019, the Government of Côte d'Ivoire, in collaboration with the World Bank, has undertaken the preparation of the Sanitation and Urban Resilience Project (PARU) in order to improve urban resilience to flood risks, poor sanitation and the unsanitary situation by deploying the Sanitation and Drainage Plan for the Abidjan District. This article presents the activities of the part of the project that was carried out in Grand-Bassam (nearby town). It is therefore in order to contribute to the reduction of diseases closely linked to the inadequate evacuation of excreta and to poor hygiene conditions that the city of Grand Bassam was selected. The implementation of this project certainly generated positive social, economic and environmental impacts, but also negative impacts. It is in order to identify and assess negative environmental and social impacts and to manage these potential impacts on the one hand, and to comply with national requirements and environmental and social standards on the other hand, that the PARU has initiated the development of the present Environmental and Social Impact Study (ESIA) of works to develop rainwater drainage structures in Grand-Bassam.
