LAMTO RESERVE

Created on July 12, 1968, the Lamto Scientific Reserve is located at the southern tip of V Baoulé, in the department of Taabo. It houses the Lamto Ecology Station. Since 1961, it has hosted multiple research programs in order to know the structure and functioning of a tropical savannah ecosystem.

The Lamto name of the station comes from a contraction of the names of its founders, Professor Lamotte and Mr. Tournier. It is an easily accessible site where a large population of buffalo and Buffon cobs cohabit. The Lamto Science Reserve houses a geophysical station and an ecological station. The 2,617 ha land hosting the station was made available to the National University of Côte d'Ivoire by decree no. 857 AGRI/DOM of 12/07/1968.
