Mobilization and strengthening of biodiversity data for conservation to support sustainable development in Côte d'Ivoire

Project type

This project aims to enable the Center National de Floristique (CNF) to carry out all botanical studies in Côte d'Ivoire. Faced with the many challenges of remobilizing actors and data, the CNF, in 2016, as part of a consortium, received BID funding (BID-AF2015-0025-NAC) to mobilize, digitize and publish several datasets on the GBIF portal (https://www.gbif.org/search?q=Côte d'Ivoire). Based on the results obtained and the surveys carried out during the previous project, the CNF, through this new call for projects, proposes to increase the biodiversity data available for Côte d'Ivoire. Thus, Ivorian universities and institutions such as the UFR of Biological Sciences of the Environment through its Biodiversity and IPBES focal points will contribute to the data to be mobilized. Besides plants, the data will also cover other groups of organisms that are very poorly represented on the GBIF Côte d'Ivoire portal such as fungi, bacteria and viruses and fauna. Thus, this project will contribute to the national mobilization of data on biodiversity to support decisions supporting sustainable development in Côte d'Ivoire. Specifically, it will first mobilize relevant biodiversity data for decision-making for sustainable development, then use and extend best practices for mobilizing and digitizing other biodiversity data. The third step is to apply biodiversity data to support decision-making and research. Family, in a fourth step is to apply biodiversity data to support decision-making and research. Finally, in a fourth step, develop sustainable national, regional or thematic networks to support the sharing and reuse of data.
